Mina Invierno adjusts staffing due to lower coal production

As a result of the prolonged low price scenario the coal market faces, Mina Invierno has seen in the need to reduce their level of coal production to 2.3 million tons in 2016, representing a decrease of 25% compared to 2015. This reduction in production is part of a series of efforts and optimization measures designed to address the current complex scenario. In this context, along with the stop of part of the fleet of mining equipment, the company will apply a cross – organizational structure adjustment, bringing the staffing of Mina Invierno itself from 530 to 480 people in late March.

Guillermo Hernandez, Regional Manager of Mina Invierno said that”… without a doubt, this is a painful and difficult decision, but is absolutely essential for the viability of our operation. The company recognizes and appreciates the contribution of all those who unfortunately won’t continue to work with us. However, I think it is important to note that we remain an important source of employment for about 800 people in the region, considering our own staff and third parties. I want also to recognize the maturity and understanding we have had from all of our union leaders, who have been duly informed of this situation, caused by the depressed condition of the coal market.”
